Brief description of the project:
The proposed project aims to re-functionalize the building not only from the point of view of energy, acoustic and structural efficiency, but also from that of the multiple possibilities of integration between the nature of the disused architecture and the socio-economic context in which it is re-integrated through the redevelopment process.
With a view to increasing the building's earthquake response capabilities, a series of useful devices are grafted onto the existing elements to recreate a unified box-like behavior toward horizontal actions. Points where the functional program interferes with the structural demand are used as opportunities for the creation of novel architectural elements in dialogue with the pre-existing.
From the point of view of the Energy Adaptation of the factory (Class A), the interventions focus essentially on three main fronts: the efficiency of the building envelope, the installation of systems (photovoltaic, heat pump) consistent with the nature of the building and its consumption, prediction and design of useful mechanisms for summer cooling and natural recirculation of indoor air.
